MATCH Community Day Charter School
Hyde Park, MA
CRJA-IBI Group is collaborating with the project architects on the design of a multi-purpose playing field, basketball court, and small playground for the MATCH Community Day Charter School, which will serve English language learners in the City of Boston.
This new 700 student K-12 Charter School will occupy a six acre, multi-building campus on land between the Neponset River and the Fairmount commuter rail line at Tschapitoulas and Poydras Streets in Boston’s Hyde Park neighborhood. The 90,000 sq ft building program includes classroom buildings and a gymnasium.
CRJA-IBI Group is also designing planting and site furniture and is working to coordinate the design of hardscape elements such as sidewalks that connect parking areas with building entrances and site amenities.
Engaging entry sequences to the school campus will provide a clear and site-specific identity for the school, as well as move people seamlessly through the necessary arrival, drop-off and parking rituals. With the site’s proximity to the Neponset River, CRJA-IBI Group is also working to clear, plant, and shape the site to create and maximize views, ensuring each person’s engagement with the site at some level. Balancing riverfront setback requirements, selectively providing and limiting visual/physical access, and using sustainable materials and construction techniques are also site design priorities.
