Cambridge Rindge and Latin School War Memorial and Media and Arts Buildings

Cambridge, MA

The renovation of the Media and Arts buildings at the Cambridge Rindge and Latin School completes the work of the associated Cambridge War Memorial Building renovations.

CRJA-IBI Group worked with the project architects to upgrade the overall site to comply with universal access codes, to protect existing trees and upgrade sidewalks and tree plantings to meet current City of Cambridge standards, and to meet the project’s site security and “green building” goals. Some sustainable design measures include:

Continuous treeways with structural soils to ensure a positive growing environment for 16 new street trees;  A small green roof retrofitted onto an existing roof, to be used as an educational opportunity within the school’s science programs;  Harvesting roof run-off for landscape irrigation;  A large deck structure, designed as a conservation measure to protect large, existing trees, and also to create additional usable space at the interface between the school and the public sidewalk.

This project recently received LEED Gold certification.
